Hi Shelley,
Sorry my response to your comment is so late. I hope you've found help for your lymphadema.

Depending on your age, health history, and heredity, the scarring from hip resurfacing could be constricting your lymphatics. Another factor may be how tight the hip musculature is, as a result of splinting from pain for years before the operation. I have successfully treated post-operative swelling in the lower extremities with lymphatic drainage massage, myofascial release of scar tissue in the hip muscular fascia, followed by appropriate strengthening and gait re-patterning.

Lymphadema, which is edema independent of any trauma or other medical condition, is not that well understood. Compression garments sometimes help, but don't address the cause of the swelling, and not everyone benefits from them.

There are at least two kinds of massage that address the lymph: Lymphatic Drainage Massage, developed in Europe by Dr. Bruno Chikly, and the better-known Vodder Technique. Dr. Chikly's method is a very gentle technique, which like the Vodder Technique, must be done in proper sequence. His approach is to attempt, through touch, to evoke movement of the contractile fibers of the lymphatic system and to encourage development of collateral circulation around blockages, as well as restore balance to the system. The Vodder Technique, attempts to move the lymph itself by mechanical means using various rhythmic stroking techniques. Either one can help.

<a href="http://www.iahp.com/pages/search/index.php" rel="nofollow">Massage therapists certified in the Chikly method can be found here: </a>

<a href="http://www.vodderschool.com/manual_lymph_drainage_overview" rel="nofollow">Massage therapists certified in the Vodder Technique can be found here: </a>

Hope this helps.

I am looking for a certified therapist who can help me to overcome the mild lymphadema I was diagnosed with after I had double hip resurfacing surgery four years ago. I have problem with edema in both of my legs, and the compression stockings that I was told to wear cut off circulation in my legs even they were made for me. I just want to find a way to lessen the swelling and learn to deal with the problems I have with this disease.
